Glues & Solvents
Methylene Chloride-- most popular for acrylic
This is not really glue but a solvent-type bonding agent for acrylic and Plexiglas pieces. Instead of having 2 pieces of acrylic glued together it actually welds them together. If you try to pull the pieces apart they will not break at the glue joint. The strongest spot on the plexi is now actually at the glue joint. Generally it is used for edge gluing, since it softens the surfaces and welds them together. You can also use it to apply handles, legs, knobs and do plastic repairs. It produces a strong, optically clear cemented joint that dries very quickly and cleanly. Methylene Chloride is a very viscous and because of that you don't need to use a lot to glue plexi together, so the bottle will last you a long time. Methylene Chloride solvent is the industry standard in gluing acrylic and plexi. One form or another of Methylene Chloride is used by plastic fabricators around the world. Very strong and quick drying it makes joining plexi a snap. THE SOLVENT WILL WELD: *ACRYLIC *PLEXIGLASS *LUCITE *POLYSTYRENE.
